We all have one… My third grade teacher Miss Fletcher still stands out in my memory as the teacher responsible for my love of language, whose weekly spelling bees made learning fun and built confidence at the same time.
To celebrate teachers like her, The Blackboard Awards, founded by New York Family‘s parent company, Manhattan Media celebrate teachers and principals of excellence from all education communities—public, private, parochial and charter—and from all grade levels, from nursery school through high school. Additionally, they help New York City parents make informed choices about their children’s education, and honor great schools too.
Parent participation is critical- and that’s where you come in… Since its inception eleven years ago, thousands of city parents have nominated their schools, principals, and teachers.
Nominations are accepted all year round, but school awards take place in November, so take a moment to place your vote, you’ll be helping that school grow its reputation and reach other families who may be interested in it. And don’t forgot to nominate your favorite teacher too. Let’s show our educators that we believe they are some of society’s most important—and most unsung—heroes.
